hmmmm

Not much to say today.

Just sitting and waiting for that damn June 15th to get here. I'm hoping Dr. Laskin has some good news for us (whatever that means) because DH's brother and his wife have their gender scan on June 17th. If Dr.Laskin has bad news for us and then we get to rejoice over someone else's baby 2 days later I'll probably have a nervous breakdown.

So what is "good" news? Well I'm actually hoping they find something. If they find nothing then there is a good chance they won't change much from my last pregnancy. I'll be on aspirin and progesterone and fertility drugs to get pregnant but I did that last time and still lost the baby at 15 weeks. I'm really hoping that all our genetic testing comes back normal because if it doesn't then we will have to go to IVF and PGD and we really can't afford that right now. I guess I'm just hoping that he has a plan for what we can do next time and that that plan includes something new to prevent another miscarriage. That's not too much to ask is it?

  1. Nope, not too much to ask.

Just curious: do you have a gut feeling as to what the problem might be?

  2. My feeling is that there is a clotting problem. The issue with that is that many times nothing is found in bloodwork but I know several RPL women with unexplained RPL that carried to term with blood thinners. I'm worried that nothing will show up and they won't want to try blood thinners "just in case". I really feel that I need blood thinners to help me carry to term. It just makes sense since the 1st time I tried aspirin I made it to 15 weeks. I think I just need something stronger than aspirin.

  3. That makes sense to me, especially if the aspirin helped you carry to 15 weeks. This is torture for you - I can't wait until June 15, either, for you to get some conclusive answers.

  4. It's too bad they leave you hanging with results, isn't it? I saw Dr L as well after 2 losses, and was told I'd have to wait till longer after my loss to get more bloodwork done (and then he never ended up doing some of the autoimmune stuff - told me my crummy PCOS eggs were at fault). I hope you get some answers.
I'd really like to get a BFP from IVF try #2, preferably before my brother and SIL have their baby girl (due the week my first lost baby would have turned 2) after already having had 2 boys. I found out they were pregnant the day before I got yet another BFN in Jan. Yay.
Ah well, just over 2 weeks to go for you now. Good luck with the waiting!

  5. Kate:

Dr. L did mention PCOS crummy eggs to me which had me concerned that he was going to blame it on that. My problem with that diagnosis is that my 3rd baby was 15 weeks and completely normal and fully formed which I don't think would happen with a crummy egg. Did he have a solution for that issue for you?

  6. He never ended up telling me his solution - we decided to go with Dr Hannam for the IVF instead, given his fantastic success rates. I'm already on metformin, which I think is supposed to help. I had asked him how he thought we could fix that (he did say he had ways to help), but he said he'd deal with that when we decided to do IVF, and gave us his card and told us to come to an info session.
I don't think crummy eggs would get you to 15 weeks either (I made it to 8.5), so I'd guess something else is going on.
I think male factor (DNA fragmentation 27.4%) is a factor for us too.
I'll look forward to seeing if you get some answers from Dr L.
