Interesting turn of events...

So I saw my beloved RE today. I just want to mention that he is incredibly handsome and look more like an underwear model than a doctor. Anyways I digress, so I filled him in on what Dr.L had to say because apparently Dr.L has not called Dr.S to talk about me yet. His first instinct was the same as mine, why do Puregon when Clomid works? But then, like me he decided that since we went to the trouble of spending the last 6 months getting an opinion from THE expert in RPL then we should probably listen to him! So it sounds like that might be the next step EXCEPT.....

Our genetic tests came back (finally) and they found something in DH's. He has a small translocation or something. Dr.S wasn't able to get specific because the results were sent to records to be scanned into the system. Anyways, they don't know if that could contribute to the miscarriages but we have to meet with a geneticist probably next week (WOW that was fast). If the geneticist says it's a no biggie then we will do Puregon with IUI if he says it is a big deal then it will be IVF with PGD. Either way a pricey venture.

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm relieved that we might have an answer (then again, we might not) I'm amazed that it might be him and not me. I'm worried (as usual) about EVERYTHING. We should know by Monday when exactly our appointment with the geneticist is. More waiting....

  1. Oooh, I like hot docs. lol

Well, that's interesting that they found a translocation. Obviously, I hope it's no biggie, though, for the purpose of avoiding IVF, if possible. (I definitely know how it feels to find out that it might be a guy problem, contrary to every doctor's previous belief. I'm still adjusting to knowing that there isn't anything 'wrong' with me.)

And I'm SUPER glad that you have the genetic counselling so fast, considering how long you've waited for this whole process to end!

  2. Thanks, I thought of you immediately actually. It's like all the docs don't even think past the PCOS crap to figure the problem might be somewhere else. I wish I knew more about what his translocation is so I could research it to death before next week. So far from what I've read, most translocations are causes of recurrent miscarriage. If we need IVF and PGD we will wait until November when DH's benefits kick in for sure!

  3. I really wouldn't be surprised if the translocation is the root of all evil, given that everything else has come back clear. I guess it must be a balanced translocation for your DH to be ok. I'm so happy that you get to meet with a geneticist so soon to figure out your options. IVF with PGD sounds like it might really be the way to go to avoid any other devastating losses like you've had in the past. If that's what they suggest and you'll have benefits in November, at least you'll be able to spend a few months trying to get your mind off the IF crap and enjoying other aspects of your life more.
    Keep us posted!

  4. Thanks Kate! I don't know much about it (yet) so it's nice to get an opinion from someone who does. Did you do PGD with your IVF?
