34 weeks and a trip to L/D
So I'm 34 weeks as of yesterday and I spent 4 hours last night in L/D being monitored. It all started Tuesday night. DH and I went to the movies and on the way from the truck to the theatre I noticed I was feeling pretty crampy, weird but totally normal I thought. While in the movie I had 5 or 6 strong contractions but they stopped before the end of the movie so once again I wasn't too worried. The next day around lunch time I noticed the cramping again. It felt like mild to moderate menstrual cramps. I continued to work through the afternoon but the cramping was going into my back and getting more intense so I called L/D to ask them what to do. They told me to go home and lay down for a couple of hours and see if it goes away and if not then come in. So I did that but the cramping just got more intense so we went in. They monitored me for 4 hours, the baby looked good and I was having contractions (some pretty strong ones) but nothing regular. They checked me for a bladder infection which I don't have. They didn't check my cervix (which I thought they might) and told me it was false labour and come back if my water breaks or my contractions get to be a few min apart. I was kind of surprised because I thought at this point they would want to stop labour from starting not just let it happen but I was so sick of being there (and hungry) after 4 hours that I just about ran out the door. I still have the cramping today along with sharp pain in what I can only describe as my cervix but I'm thinking maybe the baby has dropped a little and that's what's causing all the discomfort. Hopefully I won't have to go back to L/D for 4-6 weeks!

Hope that little one bakes as long as you need it too! When Josie dropped, I also had the cramping, but not the contractions. Take it easy girl!
ReplyDeleteSorry you're dealing with this! At 34 weeks, outcomes are the same as for a term pregnancy in the long term. I think some doctors would still try to calm the contractions down, but they won't try too hard. Maybe IV fluids, maybe a shot of something in the IV, but I doubt they'd be giving magnesium sulfate at this point. Hope you can hang on a couple more weeks!
ReplyDeleteI hope the babe hangs in there for just a little while longer! It's so exciting to think that she'll be in your arms soon.
ReplyDeleteScary stuff!! Hope that little one cooks a bit longer, make sure you rest more :)
